Food Services Director Opening

Tilikum is a year-round retreat center nestled among hazelnut orchards and hillside vineyards of Newberg, Oregon.  Since 1971, Tilikum has offered quality programs and outstanding food service for our guests.  We are located only 45 minutes southwest of Portland and an hour northwest of Salem.  We usually serve between 30-50 guests in our dining center.  This allows us to provide an intimate dining experience that is unique to institutional food service environments. The meals we serve are prepared with loving care, providing our guests with fresh, locally grown foods and produce that are in-season. We make our meals from scratch each day so our guests are being served the highest quality food possible for a superior dining experience. 

OPENING DATE:             April 15, 2012

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:   Full-time; 12 months

START DATE:                 May 15, 2012 or when filled

RESPONSIBILITIES: Tilikum's Food Services Director is responsible for the overall supervision of food services providing high-quality food to our guests and campers. Primary food service responsibilities include:  Menu planning & purchasing; includes costing, working with budgets, implementing new recipes, supervising and evaluating kitchen staff; acting as Lead Cook at least one meal per week; oversight of kitchen and dining room, including equipment maintenance and purchasing, safety standards and inventory control; and exceeding county, state, ACA and other sanitation standards. This position is an integral part of Tilikum’s management team, attending meetings, retreats, and planning for the overall ministry.  Other duties as assigned especially in winter months.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma (or equivalent) required; Two-years hands on experience in a related field; two years in related education (i.e.: culinary arts, hospitality) strongly preferred; Ability to negotiate stairs, work in or out of doors, lift at least 50 pounds and stand for long periods.  Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.  Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.  High level of initiative, ability to work alone as well as in a team environment, flexibility and creativity.  Availability and willingness to work a wide variety of hours, including weekends, holidays and some evenings.  Verifiable leadership, supervision and team working skills.  Computer proficiency.  Valid Oregon Driver License and Oregon Food Handler’s card, or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment. 
Strong service and ministry orientation.  Christian commitment and lifestyle.

COMPENSATION:  Pay Range:  $30,000 - $33,000 depending on experience. Competitive Benefits: Vacation; sick leave; holidays; health, dental, life, disability insurance; and retirement plan.
